"I wonder if there are any structural engineers available to come assess the situation here. The Haitians are terrified to return inside. Many have no homes to return to. We are currently looking into options for constructing some temporary housing for folks who have lost their homes. Of course, if we are going to be having aftershocks like the one yesterday, it doesn’t make sense to begin building. And this, I believe, is the source of great stress to so many. We want to say “Okay, the quake happened, let’s clean up and get the reconstruction started.” But it is far from that simple. On Tuesday, Lex had spoken with Boss Pepe, our head mason. He told him we would start rebuilding the walls around the school and the office. When that big aftershock hit, I was glad that we hadn’t started the construction yet, as it would have already been destroyed. Most of us are challenged by the need for such patience.
We desperately need tents, blankets and food for distributing throughout our area. It is the coldest time of the year here and overnights can be extremely uncomfortable. Should we get a serious rain at night while the people have no shelter, they could end up very ill. Please join us in praying for shelter to arrive for these folks." --Renee at Mission Of Hope
